The report compiled by a coalition of human rights groups and researchers documents a sharp rise in Islamophobic rhetoric in public discourse, online platforms and political campaigns over the past decade — a trend that has accelerated since Modi’s re-election in 2019.
The study traces how BJP leaders, grassroots supporters, and affiliated Hindu nationalist groups have repeatedly used dehumanizing language to vilify Muslims, framing the minority community as “infiltrators,” “terrorists,” or threats to India’s Hindu majority. High-profile incidents, such as calls for Muslim genocide at religious rallies and the bulldozing of Muslim-owned properties in BJP-led states, have fueled fears of state-sanctioned discrimination.
Modi himself has faced criticism for avoiding direct condemnation of such rhetoric.
